It's not a secret that at Prima we love knitting and are well aware of the positive impact of it has on our lives, from keeping us calm and away from our phones to bringing us joy.
With that in mind, we've loved seeing knitting grow in popularity over the recent years with John Lewis reporting that haberdashery sales skyrocketed by 61% in 2023.
Celebrities have also been inspired to share their creations more often and Tom Daley a champion of this, even launching his own knitwear brand, Made With Love by Tom Daley, in November 2021. While TV presenter Lorraine Kelly has taken up knitting to battle stress after being inspired by the former Olympic diver himself.
They're not the only famous faces to take up the craft – stars like Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts have been knitting on film sets for years.
Whether on set, during their time off or just as a hobby, these are our favourite celebrities who love to knit.

Lorraine Kelly
After being taught to knit by none other than Olympic gold medallist Tom Daley, Lorraine Kelly has been sharing a few of her creations with her followers on Instagram.
Last year, the TV star shared a picture of her daughter Rosie's dog Ruby, who was snuggled into a cosy blanket that she knitted especially for the Daschund.
She also tried her hand at a cosy blanket for her producer's adopted dog Oscar.

Tom Daley
Tom Daley is one of our favourite celebrity crafters and is known for his gorgeous knitting and crochet projects, as well as his Olympic diving career. He even launched his own knitwear brand Made with Love and frequently shares his latest creations on his Instagram account.

That's right, screen and theatre legend Sir Patrick Stewart can knit.
He told Wired: "My mother was a knitter and she taught me how to knit."

Kaffe Fasset
With a career spanning 50 years, Kaffe Fasset is one of the most important names in crafts. His designs transformed crafts, opening up the options available to make your own quilts, homewares and fashion using his fabrics and knitting patterns.
His work can be identified by its exquisite colours and it comes from years of working with colour through painting, knitting colour combinations and creating patchwork designs.
He told Prima: “Colour equals happiness – colour is the tonic the world needs, something that makes you totally happy.”

Julia Roberts
Did you know that Julia Roberts is a prolific knitter?
She learnt how to knit on a movie set 30 years ago, and recently told CBS News: "We called it our lonely meters: 'How lonely were you last night?' And we'd, like, pull out this much knitting. 'Look how lonely I was!'" she laughed. "And yeah, so I have been knitting ever since."
Screenwriter Richard Curtis also shared that the actress once turned up to his home, in Notting Hill, with a handstitched throw that she had made while on set during the film production of Notting Hill.
He told British Vogue: "On the day of the film’s premiere, she rocked up at our house in Notting Hill with a little blanket she’d knitted on set with my daughter Scarlett’s name on it."

Meryl Streep
Joining our list of the many celebrities who knit is Hollywood legend Meryl Streep.
During an interview with James Corden on the Late Late Show & Tell, she even unveiled her knitting bag from 1967, which included the old magazines she used for inspiration.

Amy Adams
Amy Adams picked up knitting from Meryl Streep herself on the set of their movie Doubt in 2008.
Speaking on The Kelly Clarkson Show, she said: “She did it in two parts, to sort of create a bonding experience between our characters but also probably she felt sorry for me because I tend to be energetic.
"I'm sure she thought that was a great way for me to direct my energy instead of just...skipping around in my habit like Maria."

Michelle Obama
She may be one of the most famous women in America, but former First Lady Michelle Obama has previously shared her love of knitting on social media with her words resonating with crafters around the world.
She said: "In knitting, when you create the first stitch of a new project, you cast on. When an item is finished, you bind off. Both of these actions, I've found, are incredibly satisfying bookends of something manageable and finite.
"Knitting has truly become one of my favorite pastimes, and I’ve enjoyed the feeling of slowing down and creating something from hand. I know so many of you are knitters – I’d love to see something you’ve proudly made and hear why you enjoy knitting so much."

Cara Delevingne
Model and trendsetter Cara Delevingne has been knitting for years. Back in 2014, she posted a picture of herself on Instagram knitting backstage at a fashion show, saying: "Knitting is the BOMB". She has since often been pictured practicing the hobby on shoots.

Barbie star Ryan Gosling recently confessed knitting would be his favourite day activity. He first picked up the hobby while filing Lars and the Real Girl in 2007.
In an interview with GQ Australia he said: "I did this scene in Lars and the Real Girl where I was in a room full of old ladies who were knitting, and it was an all-day scene, so they showed me how. It was one of the most relaxing days of my life. If I had to design my perfect day, that would be it.
"And you get something out of it at the end. You get a nice present.”
Although he also confessed he has some learning to do adding: "I can’t do anything really elaborate, but I can do the basics. I can cast on and off and all that.”
