Brief Summary of Work for this Position

The Assistant Director of Institutional Assessment providesexpertise and support for assessment and institutionalaccreditation for one or more designated academic colleges at UNCW. The Assistant Director is responsible for supporting theUniversity and College(s) mission in these key areas:

  1. College/School educational and administrative unitassessment,
  2. Institutional accreditation
  3. Analysis and support of educational program metrics,institutional strategic plan metrics, and specialized programaccreditation requirements as it relates to the program’sassessment plans.

The Assistant Director will be a member of a team of individuals inthe Office of Institutional Effectiveness.

The Assistant Director partners with and supports the efforts offaculty, administrators, and staff to ensure high-qualityassessment plans, reports, compliance evidence, and the effectiveuse of assessment results that foster a culture of continuousquality improvement. This individual collaborates with faculty,program coordinators, chairs/directors, and collegeadministration/staff in the improvement process by providingtraining and ongoing support to ensure that assessment efforts aremeaningful to programs/units and outcomes are aligned with theuniversity’s strategic plan and accreditation requirements. Theassistant director leads individuals and teams in academic,administrative, and college student support units to ensure thatthese units identify outcomes, develop assessment plans, conductdata collection and analysis, determine improvement plans,consistently document results and status of actions, and maintainrelated documentation for reporting purposes in universitycloud-based systems. The assistant director will refine andimplement assessment processes that align with the university’sacademic program review process. This individual will be acontributing member of the University Assessment Council, serve onappropriate college/school leadership teams to share results, andsupports university comprehensive assessment programs (e.g.,General Education and Quality Enhancement plans) forcollege-related courses, academic program reviews, accreditationvisits, and other quality assurance and improvement efforts, TheAssistant Director will assist in the preparation, review, and thesubmission of assessment reports, participating in or leadingrelated meetings, and performing other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • Master’s degree in education, evaluation, social science,statistics, or related disciplines
  • 5+ years of coordinating assessment within a university orcollege setting
  • Experience in the development of comprehensive assessment andcontinuous improvement plans and reports
  • Experience in conducting social science research
  • Leadership experience within a complex and diverseorganization

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Advanced degree beyond the master’s level
  • Experience with assessment and specialized accreditationmatters at the College/School/Program level
  • Demonstrated experience providing expertise and support to avariety of stakeholders across an organization
  • Experience with assessment reporting of program and studentlearning outcomes, with an ability to analyze data, solve problems,make decisions, and prioritize
  • Experience with the accreditation processes within highereducation and the development of new academic programs
  • Experience managing an assessment or accreditation reportingcloud-based solutions

Reporting to the Chief Academic Officer within the Division ofAcademic Affairs, the Office of Institutional Research and Planning( OIRP ) provides leadership and expertise related to institutionaldata and information, strategic planning, institutionaleffectiveness, and space management. In pursuit of accountability,integrity, and transparency, OIRP supports the entire institutionthrough comprehensive research-based planning and evaluationprocesses which provide campus leadership with accurate informationfor data-informed decisions.

The Office of Institutional Effectiveness ( OIE ) is a sub-unit ofOIRP, charged with providing institutional-wide support on unit andprogram assessment, accreditation, strategic planning, courseevaluation, and survey design/analysis to university stakeholders.OIE manages university technologies that support collecting anddisseminating information related to monitoring effectiveness forthe campus.
