Brief Summary of Work for this Position

UNCW is wrapping up the public phase of a $125 millioncomprehensive campaign, and the Office of Annual Giving is growingits team to better serve the needs of University Advancement. TheAssociate Director of Annual Giving will serve as a trusted partnerto the Director of Annual Giving and will be responsible formanaging many of the day-to-day operations of a centralized annualgiving program. UNCW’s Office of Annual Giving is an industryleader known for its innovative strategies, collaborative spirit,and donor-centric approach. This role will help design and executea comprehensive fundraising plan that will increase private supportfrom alumni, parents, friends, and the campus community, includingemployees and students.

This position will be directly responsible for developing andexecuting multi-channel solicitation strategies, as well as helpingto track results of annual giving campaigns and solicitations. TheAssociate Director will also supervise two full-time AssistantDirectors.

This is an exciting opportunity for an emerging leader to play anactive role in designing strategies that support UNCW’sphilanthropic priorities and align with campaign goals to includeincreasing participation among the university’s 100,000alumni.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 4 years of development experience with a focus on annual givingor direct marketing experience with demonstrable results
  • Ability to set, track, and analyze progress toward annualgoals
  • Ability to interpret complex data to guide strategicdecisions
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability toeffectively manage multiple projects and prioritiessimultaneously
  • A commitment to understanding industry trends and bestpractices and implementing program changes, when necessary
  • Strong interpersonal skills, excellent written and verbalcommunication skills
  • Strong judgment and code of personal ethics
  • Ability to operate effectively, flexibly and collegially in acomplex organizational environment
  • Ability to lead and empower staff to meet both individual andteam goals

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

The Division for University Advancement is responsible for thefollowing primary goals:

  1. Coordinate a campus-wide, comprehensive effort to raisephilanthropic funds that support the strategic plan and mission ofthe university.
  2. Manage an inclusive alumni engagement program designed to serveand engage nearly 100,000 alumni as ambassadors, advocates anddonors.
  3. Strengthen and expand UNCW’s donor pipeline through effectivediscovery, cultivation, solicitation and stewardshipstrategies.
  4. Ensure that external boards ( UNCW Foundation Board, Board ofVisitors, Student Aid Association Board, Alumni Association Boardof Directors and the Friends of UNCW ) are effective in theirmission of supporting UNCW .

The division’s fundraising efforts are enhanced by effectivepartnerships with the campus community as well as externalconstituents including alumni, parents, corporations, foundations,volunteers and friends. Development areas include annual giving,leadership annual giving, major gifts, principal gifts, corporateand foundation engagement and planned giving, as well as alumniengagement. Prospect development, events and board management,stewardship, communications and advancement services are supportservices for the fundraising activities of the division.
